Getting a dose of Dopamine, every time that list of notifications nudge you to grab the cellphone and scroll mindlessly. Do you also want to get rid of this addiction but fail drastically. Because you know, this is the social media driven Era and you don't want to have FOMO whenever you try to cut off from this catastrophic habit.
But is there a way to balance things out? Can we really remove this habit and regain focus without completely cutting off from the world?
'Yup, my dear where there is a will there is a way'. You must have heard this quote many times, but why we are not able to apply this in case of social media addiction? The reason is, this thing is made this way my friend. It's algorithm is to keep you engaged with the app and make as much money as you scroll and as many ads pop up, and you are just caught up in a Cage from which even if you want you are unable to escape.
So what can you do to keep yourself safe from the hazardous effect of this habit? How can you regain your focus to stay productive? Here are some ways which were useful to me and i know will also help you to decelerate this addiction.
STEP 1: Create the environment
If you are unable to get rid of this vicious habit, start by converting it into a productive one. Unfollow all the pages which are of no use and are just for entertainment. Start following some pages having content which could benefit you in the long run, whether personally or professionally. Follow people from which you get a dose of inspiration. Unfollow or mute the accounts, whose posts you find intimidating and harmful to your mental health. Subscribe to personal development channels rather than comedy shows. Set up an environment to convert social media a weapon or tool for growth rather than a ticking atom bomb 💣 which could blast any day consuming your focus abilities and devastating your mental health.
STEP 2: Start with small steps
You can't conquer anything in one day. It will feel so much difficult at the initial phase as this social media gives your mind dopamine hits and trust me your brain craves for this neurohormone. You can't abolish this addiction in one day nor you will be able to do consistently if you cutoff immediately, as you will crave more and more. It's just like drug addiction. So start with small steps, mute the notifications of all unimportant apps. Check and use the apps mindfully, being aware of what you want to search or see. Try to avoid mindless scrolling. Don't uninstall the apps as you know you will install them again after 15 days or 1 month. As we want permanent solution so you can completely realign your focus on productive tasks so temporary motivation won't work here.
STEP 3: Keep yourself engaged in good stuff
Instead of quiting this habit include other good habits and keep yourself busy in them. Ultimately you will find no time left for social media. If you go for a gym of 1 hour instead of scrolling mindlessly and after returning you consume yourself in learning some new skills, at the end of the day you would not have the urge or time left. Try this thing it really works - keep yourself busy.
STEP 4: Set your priorities
If you have a goal or plan for real success rather than temporary happiness, it's very easy to get rid of any addiction. If you really want to succeed in your career and personal development you will ultimately see the time ticking away as you scroll through the internet. So what is your aim? Ask this question to yourself whenever you feel an urge to pick up the phone to scroll mindlessly. I bet you will stop at the same instant when you have your priorities set.
STEP 5: Convert this tool of addiction into a finance source
How will it feel if you can control your mind and you can change this tool of addiction into a tool of power and success. In today's tech. influenced world if you learn one skill whether it is digital marketing, advertisement, content writing, teaching, video editing and many more, you have myriads of opportunities waiting at your doorstep. You can earn through social media. The thing which till now is having no productive significance in your life can become the fantastic start of your financial career. You just need to master one skill and you will be earning through this tool which is currently controlling your mind. You will really feel like a winner.🏆 😉
